Use the API key from Billing & API keys after payment is verified. OpenAI clients use https://multi-api.savemytoken.com/v1; Claude Code uses https://multi-api.savemytoken.com. Keep your key private.
The page never requests or stores your key. Shell examples use macOS, Linux or Windows WSL unless marked otherwise.
Your agent sends selected content through the gateway to the upstream inference service. Review API data handling before using a private project.
01 / PREPARE
Install the agent and prepare access
Official installation guide- Install the agent using its official guide. Check its version before merging the examples below.
- Purchase your Multi-Model plan, then open Billing & API keys to copy your active key. OpenAI base: https://multi-api.savemytoken.com/v1. Claude Code base: https://multi-api.savemytoken.com. DeepSeek credentials are a separate scope.
- Back up the file you will edit. Merge fields into existing objects and tables; preserve unrelated providers, tools and permission settings. Keep credentials in private local settings.
- Image input is supported by seven routes; GLM-5.3 is text-only. Send JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP images as Base64 or public HTTP(S) image URLs. The gateway accepts up to 20 images, 10 MiB per inline image and 20 MiB total inline image data per request.
- Each image temporarily reserves 16,384 input tokens at the selected model's points rate. After completion, the reservation is replaced by the supplier's actual input and output token usage, including image tokens. Base64 characters are not billed as text tokens.
Ready when: the agent opens, and you know which plan, process and configuration directory you will use.
02 / CONFIGURE
Save the connection and model catalog
Create the parent directories if needed. Download or copy each file, replace the example endpoint and local placeholders, then merge it into the stated location. Downloads and the examples below contain the same configuration.
~/.config/savemytoken/multi-model/claude/settings.jsonSave as USER settings inside the dedicated CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR, not as project .claude/settings.json. Replace the key locally and restrict access to the file. modelPicker requires a compatible version; exact /model IDs remain the fallback.

03 / START
Start the agent and choose your model
Open a terminal in a trusted project. Complete the file setup before running these commands.
mkdir -p "$HOME/.config/savemytoken/multi-model/claude"
# Save settings.json above, then protect it:
chmod 600 "$HOME/.config/savemytoken/multi-model/claude/settings.json"
CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR="$HOME/.config/savemytoken/multi-model/claude" claudeOpen /model for the named catalog, or type /model followed by an exact model ID. Opus, Sonnet and Haiku are fixed shortcuts in this configuration; they all start on DeepSeek Flash and do not follow later model switches. These aliases do not supply Anthropic models.
Check: the provider is the one you configured and the selected model is deepseek-flash. A visible model list alone does not prove inference works.
04 / REASONING
Choose and verify reasoning effort
Use /effort to inspect and change intensity. Current versions can save a per-model default; use the session-only selector or --effort for a temporary override. Max is session-only.
Remove a fixed CLAUDE_CODE_EFFORT_LEVEL if you want interactive control. Review modelSettings, effortLevel and disabled thinking settings when the choice does not take effect.
The client may offer more levels than your backend supports. Use the capability table below. /effort auto clears a manual intensity; it is not MiniMax's adaptive thinking mode and does not guarantee that the client omits effort.
/status
/model deepseek-flash
/effort status
/effort low
/effort highOn DeepSeek Flash, choose Low, then High, then Low again. Inspect the active setting each time before sending the next message. A longer answer is not evidence that effort changed.
REASONING CONTROLS
Choose effort for the actual model
Use these exact gateway IDs. All eight models draw from the same points allowance. Image input support is listed per model below. Output is text or tool calls; audio and video input and media generation are not included.
| Model / request ID | Choices | Reference default | What the control means |
|---|---|---|---|
DeepSeek Flashdeepseek-flash | Off / Low / High / Max | High | Off / Low / High / Max. In this gateway contract, Medium and XHigh map to High; Ultra maps to Max. |
GLM-5.3-Flashglm-5.3-flash | Low / High / Max | Max | Low / High / Max. Thinking stays on; this route has no Off option. |
MiMo V2.6 Flashmimo-flash | Off / On (High) | On (High) | Off / On. High is the client label for On, not a separate reasoning intensity. |
MiMo V2.6 Promimo-pro | Off / On (High) | On (High) | Off / On. High is the client label for On, not a separate reasoning intensity. |
GLM-5.3glm-5.3 | Low / High / Max | Max | Low / High / Max. Thinking stays on; this route has no Off option. |
Kimi-K3kimi-k3 | Low / High / Max | Max | Low / High / Max. Thinking stays on; this route has no Off option. |
Qwen3.8 Maxqwen3.8-max | Off / Low / Medium / XHigh | XHigh | Off / Low / Medium / XHigh. High and Max map to XHigh on this gateway; they are not additional tiers. |
MiniMax M3minimax-m3 | Off / On (High) | On (High) | Off / Auto / On via thinking.type (disabled / adaptive / enabled). Effort menus expose Off and High (On); Auto needs a native thinking control. |
A supported level makes a choice available. A default selects the starting level. A saved session or explicit override can select something else. In Pi and OpenClaw capability maps, null removes an unsupported option; keep it there. Off maps to none, not a missing effort. MiniMax Auto requires thinking.type = adaptive.
05 / DESKTOP
Claude Desktop · Code tab
Claude Desktop uses its own inference settings, not this CLI settings.json. Use Help → Troubleshooting → Enable Developer Mode, restart, then Developer → Configure Third-Party Inference when supported by your app.
Choose Gateway and use the separately delivered Desktop compatibility URL with Bearer authentication. Enable model discovery and test it. Use the IDs and backend labels returned by that endpoint; do not invent Claude-style aliases for gateway models.
Save and restart, open Code, then start a local task. Check the actual backend and the effort control for that alias. If a required effort is unavailable, use the CLI profile. SaveMyToken has not yet published a Desktop compatibility endpoint or alias mapping.

07 / TROUBLESHOOT
When setup does not work
401 / unauthorized
Check the key belongs to this plan and is visible to the process that starts the agent. A desktop app or background service may not inherit terminal exports. Do not send keys in support screenshots.
404 / model not found
Check the delivered endpoint, protocol and exact model ID. Keep /v1 for Responses and Chat Completions. Claude Code uses the delivered Messages base (normally the host without /v1). Do not use a model's display label as its request ID.
No effort selector, or a 400 effort error
Check the active configuration and this model's capability row. A declared default, a selectable menu and the value sent in a request are different things. Do not send null or an unsupported level as reasoning effort.
The old model or effort returns
Open a new session and inspect project, managed, profile and saved-session settings. A per-model override can take precedence over a global default. Restart the application after changing provider metadata.
429 / allowance exhausted
Check both allowance windows, then rate and concurrency limits. A larger reasoning budget and background agent calls can consume more tokens. Use the reset time supplied by the service; do not infer it from your local clock.
Text works but tools or search fail
Test a file read separately from web search. Native search, vision and tool capabilities depend on the delivered route and the agent. A successful text reply does not establish those capabilities.
The client cannot attach an image
Refresh the downloaded model catalog and restart the client. Choose an image-capable route such as DeepSeek Flash or GLM-5.3-Flash. GLM-5.3 is text-only. Audio, video, document attachments and Files API file_id references are not supported by this image-input integration.
08 / SOURCES
Sources and scope
Configuration structure was reviewed against the agent documentation on 2026-10-14. 2.1.242+ for modelPicker. A reference version does not establish compatibility with every later client.
The model IDs, rates and capabilities describe this gateway. Test native desktop features, search and tools separately in your agent.
