Reports point to partner testing of Fable 5.5 and a brief appearance of three Aurora model IDs in OpenAI's API. Neither amounts to an official launch announcement.
Is Fable 5.5 coming to Claude Code?
TestingCatalog reported on October 17 that a leaker claimed partners had access to Fable 5.5. It also relayed claims that Claude Code was routing some requests to the model. Anthropic has not confirmed those claims, and the suggested launch the following week was speculation.
Anthropic's official Fable page still lists Fable 5.1 at the time of this check. Timing and availability for Claude Code users remain unconfirmed.
What were the three OpenAI models?
On October 18, TestingCatalog reported that aurora-red-alpha, aurora-green-alpha, and aurora-blue-alpha briefly appeared in OpenAI's API listings before disappearing. Its coverage also linked the names to image generation tests on Arena.
Calling them three new GPT chat models would be premature. The proposed connection to GPT-Image-3 remains speculation; official names and release dates are unconfirmed.
What should developers do now?
Watch for announcements and keep existing projects on available models. Assess an upgrade once official model IDs, pricing, and access details are published.
