01 / Which models can write your answer faster?
Updated October 12, 2026. Whether you are rewriting an email, summarizing a document or generating code, a model's writing speed affects how useful it feels. For longer responses, Muse Spark 1.3, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and Claude Haiku 5.5 are worth a look.
There is also a new model to watch: GLM-5.3 Highspeed. A ZCode user has reported around 490 tokens per second. Access is being offered to selected subscribers, so check whether it is available in your account before planning around it.
02 / Generation speeds at a glance
Tokens per second measures how quickly a model generates text. A token is a piece of text, not a word. GLM Highspeed is listed separately as a model to watch because its number comes from a user report. The other nine models are ordered by measured generation speed in the modes shown.
| Model | Generation speed (tokens/s) | Mode or evidence |
|---|---|---|
| GLM-5.3 Highspeed | About 490 (user report) | Limited ZCode rollout; reasoning setting unverified |
| Muse Spark 1.3 | 259 | Public measurement · xhigh |
| DeepSeek V4.1 Flash | 216 | Public measurement · non-reasoning |
| Claude Haiku 5.5 | 172 | Public measurement · low |
| Gemini 3.8 Flash | 132 | Public measurement · high |
| Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview | 131 | Public measurement · reasoning setting unspecified |
| Claude Sonnet 5.5 | 103 | Public measurement · low with fallback |
| DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 | 97 | Public measurement · non-reasoning |
| Claude Opus 5.5 | 80 | Public measurement · low with fallback |
| Grok 4.7 | 76 | Public measurement · low |
03 / GLM-5.3 Highspeed: a reported 490 tokens per second
On October 11, Leo shared an experience with GLM-5.3 Highspeed in ZCode 3.15.1, reporting around 490 tokens per second. That makes it an interesting option to watch if you regularly generate long stretches of code. Pi's model directory also lists the model.
Availability is the first thing to check. According to that report, selected subscribers receive trial access at random. The speed is a user's observation, not an official minimum or a result measured under the same conditions as the other models here. It does not establish that GLM will consistently outperform them.

04 / Muse Spark 1.3: strong generation speed for long responses
At 259 tokens per second in xhigh mode, Muse Spark 1.3 has the highest sustained generation speed among the nine public measurements selected here. If you often ask for lengthy summaries or detailed explanations, it is worth trying. The longer the output, the more generation speed can matter.
For a one-sentence answer, accuracy and the need for follow-up edits may matter more. An advantage in long-form generation will not necessarily make every small task noticeably better.
05 / DeepSeek V4.1 Flash: a promising everyday option
DeepSeek V4.1 Flash reaches 216 tokens per second in non-reasoning mode. That makes it a useful candidate for email rewrites, document summaries and ordinary questions where you want substantial text without a drawn-out generation process.
For difficult problems, answer quality still comes first. The figure here applies to non-reasoning mode and should not be carried over to its deeper reasoning modes.
06 / Claude Haiku 5.5: fast generation for routine writing
Haiku 5.5 generates 172 tokens per second at the low reasoning setting. It is worth trying for short explanations, summaries and rewrites: tasks that need a few paragraphs and are relatively easy to check.
If your work involves complex reasoning or careful verification, consider the quality of the result alongside its speed. A draft you can use with minimal editing is more helpful than one that arrives quickly but needs a substantial rewrite.
07 / Gemini 3.8 Flash: an option for more detailed responses
Gemini 3.8 Flash reaches 132 tokens per second at the high reasoning setting. If you regularly request detailed explanations or longer pieces of organized text, it is worth comparing with the faster options above.
This figure belongs to the high setting. Check the mode you are using before treating the number as a reference for your own experience.
08 / Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview: close to Flash in generation speed
At 131 tokens per second, this record is almost level with Gemini 3.8 Flash. A difference of one token per second is too small to drive a practical choice between the two.
If both are available to you, compare how well they answer the questions you actually ask. This result is for Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview specifically; it should not be applied to every Gemini Pro model.
09 / Claude Sonnet 5.5: consider speed alongside editing effort
Sonnet 5.5 generates 103 tokens per second at low with fallback. If you already use it for writing or code changes, that provides a reference for how its generation speed compares with the alternatives here.
Haiku's sustained output is faster in these records. If both handle your task well, Haiku is worth comparing on speed. If Sonnet gives you results that require fewer corrections, staying with it may still save time overall.
10 / DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813: slower generation than Flash
DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 generates 97 tokens per second in non-reasoning mode. Its gap behind V4.1 Flash is more relevant for long responses than for a brief answer.
If you already like its results, use this number as a point of comparison. Whether a faster model is worth switching to depends partly on how much text you usually need.
11 / Claude Opus 5.5: weigh the quality of the finished result
Opus 5.5 reaches 80 tokens per second at low with fallback, below Sonnet and Haiku in this comparison. It would not be our first pick based on sustained generation speed alone.
But if it handles your usual tasks with fewer revisions, it can still be the more efficient tool for you. Consider how many attempts it takes to get a usable answer, as well as how quickly each attempt generates text.
12 / Grok 4.7: the size of your response matters
Grok 4.7 generates 76 tokens per second at the low reasoning setting. That puts it behind the other measured entries here, although the practical difference may be modest when you only need a short response.
For brief questions, keep judging it by whether the answer is useful. If you frequently generate large amounts of text, the faster options above deserve a closer comparison.
13 / Choose around the work you do most often
For long-form generation, start by comparing Muse Spark 1.3, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and Haiku 5.5. If you have ZCode trial access and regularly generate substantial code, try GLM-5.3 Highspeed. If your current tool already gives you good results, decide whether the speed difference is large enough to justify switching.
Use a task you perform regularly and compare the finished results. Generation speed, answer quality and the number of revisions together tell you more about everyday efficiency than a speed figure alone.
14 / About this comparison
Reviewed on October 12, 2026. This is a selection of mainstream models, not an exhaustive ranking of every model available. Figures apply to the modes listed and do not necessarily describe a chat product's default settings. GLM Highspeed's user-reported result was obtained under different conditions from the other measurements. We did not conduct new model tests for this article.
